Dragonfly in Amber - Diana Gabaldon

Dragonfly in Amber

This book is the 2nd in the series about Claire Fraser who is a time traveller who fell through some magical stones into Scotland in the 18th Century. This book starts off in Scotland in the 1960’s where Clare and her daughter Brianna have returned to Scotland for Claire to find out about Jamie and if he survived Culloden. The book is mainly about Claire and Jamie’s travels in France and Scotland fighting for Charles Edward Stuart.

Again Diana has managed to keep the reader interested in Claire’s adventures and her description of the French court and Scotland in th 18th Century is brilliant.

I would highly recommend this book. It is an enjoyable read and keeps you hanging on at the end of every chapter. I have just received the next installment which is called “Voyager” and can’t wait to start it.

The Simpsons Movie & CSI

Yesterday evening (Sat) we all decided to venture out from our usually cosy living room to the geek / freak fest known as our local cinema. We took a late night showing, 9:45 (come on I am getting on a bit now at 29!) which is typically when the odd balls and social misfits come out to watch films. In fact on arrival you could actually see all the pretty people just leaving and being replaced by us midnight gargoyles! - Unusually for a film we only had 400 adverts and about 2 film trailers, guess it’s a bad time of year for new films at the moment.

I went into the film with low expectations, hoping that it would be good but knowing how rubbish the last season on TV was. I am pleased to say that the movie was everything and more. The first about 20 minutes, even from the opening credits was packed with gags not to mention a quick glimpse at Bart’s weener! and the rest of the film held together pretty well to. I was never bored, and the 80 minutes or so that it was on for past as quick as a regular 20 minute show. I would definitely recommend going to see the film, and I can’t wait for the DVD release to hear the audio commentaries.

Before I go, here are a couple of funny movies from you tube to do with our favorite TV show CSI.

Coton Manor - Northamptonshire

Coton Manor 1

Coton Manor 2
As the weather was fine today we decided to venture out of the house and take a visit to a local attraction that was voted 3rd in the Daily Telegraphs most beautiful gardens. Having lived in Northamptonshire all my life I didn’t even know that the place existed. The gardens were beautiful especially around the house, if you visit earlier in the year you can see the Wisteria growing up the side of house.

One of the meadows at Coton Manor has been used in the “tweenies” on BBC 1 where the children dance round in a circle.

It is well worth a trip out there, entrance is £5 but well worth it and the homemade cakes are to die for.

Within Temptation here we come!

This amazing dutch band are soon set to break the UK mainstream music scene, with their gothic rock meets Enigma meets Evanescence styling and amazing vocal talent they definitely get our vote! - What’s more they are coming to the UK for a four night tour in November, and we now have our tickets booked. Find out more information from the bands official website. If you would like to sample one of their more sedate tracks, click on the play button in the video below.

Cats

Cats

My mum and I went to see “Cats” at the Derngate last night. It wasn’t what I expected but was enjoyable never the less. I didn’t know the story behind the musical and really should have read up on it first then perhaps it would have made a lot more sense to me.

I only knew tow songs which were “Memories” and “Mr Misoffelees”. The dancing was fantastic and the make-up remarkable. The cast did go into the audience through the show and did interact with us, which I thought was very clever. I would recommend that people go and see this, it is on at the Derngate until 21st July.
